Giving from your heart what you make with your hands..Comfort Doll Project
A few years ago a Yahoo group  was requesting ideas for charity projects and I suggested making dolls  for a cause. After dismissing the idea to make dolls for children because of safety reasons, I thought why not give them to abused women who may need a hug? Everyone at some time or another needs a positive gesture, even if from a stranger. The maker of the doll would enjoy the creating from her heart and hands, and the recipient will enjoy the gesture that someone thought of her.

No, this does not raise money nor does it feed or shelter, but it does offer something I feel of great value. It offers a woman in need, a gentle hug and the feeling that other women who may have been in her shoes at one time knows what she endures and assures her there is hope for a brighter future.

I am extending an open invitation worldwide to anyone who wants to make a small (6" or less) doll of any type. Beaded ,Crazy quilted,Art doll,in any form, person, goddess, cat, mermaid, dog, rabbit, etc. I ask that it be 6" or less so it can be carried with ease. You can make a face or leave face area blank, add charms, lace, stitching, beads, anything you wish. This could include a pin for the recipient to wear for comfort. Make it cheerful! You may include a note if you desire, I will be adding a special card to all dolls. You may also submit a name(s) of shelter for consideration to receive a batch of dolls. I will be shipping a dozen dolls to a shelter within the US as they arrive. I will also document on this page where the dolls have gone, who made them. Jo Newsham kindly agreed to collect dolls from New Zealand,Australia, and anyone closer to that area for distribution there. Please contact me and I will forward to Jo.Please visit the Comfort Doll Blog to see the wonderful dolls received to date.

I hope you find this a legitimate and worthy cause. The pain and embarrassment many women go through more often than you think is uncalled for. We need to show them they are worthy and can change their lives. They have the strength to go forward, and may just need a gentle nudge to recognize it. If that nudge is in the form of a small doll filled with love, then let's make dolls!
